Vernon Seed Orchard Company (VSOC) is a joint venture company owned by Canadian Forest Products Ltd., Winton Global Lumber Ltd., and West Fraser Mills Ltd.

Our objective is to provide quality seed to all licensees in the Seed Planning Units (SPU) for the north /central interior. Seed is available for the three main harvest species: White Spruce, Lodgepole Pine and Douglas fir.

Our Thirteen orchards are located on a large parcel of land overlooking the City of Vernon at the northern end of the Okanagan Valley in BC. Among the sites many benefits are the soil, climate, and the availability of the City spray irrigation program. These all have positive effects on the supply of seed for the interior Seed Planning Zones

All orchards are naturally selected, advanced generation and all production trees are from of the provincial Tree Improvement Program. Orchard Stock targets improve growth, and disease or insect tolerance.

As a division of active forest companies, VSOC manages each orchard for their benefit and in turn for all within the SPU.

Germination results for each seedlot are assigned by the Ministry of Forests - Tree Seed Centre as a part of the registration process. Many growers often have previous experience with certain seedlots which can aid in the success of each crop.

Questions regarding seed use and available seedlots for each species are to be asked of Tim or Dan as you plan for each sowing request season. VSOC seedlot information should be combined with your nursery growers experience to ensure the success of each growing season.
